About Us
A brief history of the club
1953 Thirteen people met in Mount Gambier to discuss the idea of forming a pistol club. Founding member, John Tremelling, represented Australia in Commonwealth Games, World Shoorting Championships and Olympic Games.
1954 The name 'Mount Gambier Revolver and Pistol Club' was registered and a shooting range was established in a disused quarry east of O'Leary Road. Free Pistol (now 50m Pistol), Center Fire and Rapid Fire matches were shot.
1960 saw a Rapid Fire range in a smaller adjacent quarry.
1961 The club became incorporated and its name was changed to Mount Gambier Pistol Club Inc which has remained the official club's name to this day.
1969 Several members purchased air pistols and the need for an indoor range arose. Business premises in Commercial Street and a church hall on James Street were used as ranges.
1970 The club moved to its present location (known as Drop Drop Reserve). Over the following years the present club house/air pistol range and open range facilities were developed very largley by the efforts of club members.
The present and future
We continue to improve our facilities and attract new members to enjoy the sport of pistol shooting.
